Club 4x4 Trip Notice
Trip Overview
Location:Howqua Region
Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary):

I'm hitting the big 40 and I'd like to celebrate by running my first trip into one of my favourite regions.
The plan is to do a big circuit over 2 days, covering some iconic VHC tracks and an awesome ridgeline walk.

On Friday night we’ll meet up and camp at 7 Mile Flat Campground on the Howqua River. Some good trout fishing in the river there, so bring a rod if that’s your thing.

On Saturday morning we’ll head up to the Bluff Hut. There is an awesome walking track across the ridgeline so we’ll spend some time up here. The walk is made a heck of a lot easier by driving up to the top first, so shouldn’t be too strenuous. Depending on conditions, we may spend a couple hours exploring.

Then we’ll continue driving along the Bluff track, King Billy Track to the Butcher Country track which we’ll do North to South. We’ll wing it and find somewhere to camp on Saturday night, possibly on the McAlister river, we’ll see where we end up in the late arvo.

On Sunday we’ll do Blue Plains Spur Track (crossing the river numerous times) and Grimme Creek track back up North and end up back where we started.

Additional Comments:

I’ve not driven most of these tracks, but lots of info/video is available online. There’ll be 100ish km in low-range, very steep climbs/descents, tight switch-backs, river crossings, rock steps and possibly muddy sections. The pace will be relaxed, and knowing me..there’ll be a lot of photo stops 😉

Bring clothing for all conditions.
No Dogs (National Park areas)
No Trailers (very tight switch backs)
Last Fuel: Mansfield..assuming there is any.
