Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary): | Firstly, this is not a 4WD trip! The weekend will be focused on landscape- and night photography.
We will meet on SAT morning at the Todd Rd Service station just before the West Gate bridge, early enough to capture the sunrise at Aireys Inlet, just past Anglesea. Sunrise is at 7.03 AM
We'll then move on and have breakfast at Lorne. After a good feed we'll move on along the Great Ocean Rd towards the Apostles. There are many opportunities for good shots at the many locations along the GOR. Gibson steps, Arch, London Bridge, Bay of Martyrs, Bay of Islands, etc.
Overnight stay will be in Port Campbell. There is an excellent Hostel or the Caravan Park, which ever one you prefer.
After dinner in Port Campbell, we'll head out in the dark to capture the stunning southern ocean stars and milky way, if you still have energy left!
After breakfast on Sunday will head back to Melbourne via Ferguson and a visit to Hopetoun falls for some more photography 🙂
Requirements:
The trip is scheduled during a new moon, giving us the best view into the night sky. If the weather forecast is not good, the trip will be re-scheduled to another date. We want a more or less cloud free night sky!
Photography Gear:
- Any camera that you can set to "manual" mode. A phone camera is not good enough!
- A tripod, the sturdier the better. I can blow a gale down there...
- Wide angle lens and filters are optional
- A spare battery, night photography can drain a battery quickly due to long exposures.
- A remote trigger if you have one
- A big enough storage card to take lots of shots.
I have a spare camera I can loan out, plus a spare tripod.
During the day, when we stop at various location, I can give tips and tricks on how to get the best picture.
Familiarise yourself with your camera setting, especially the HDR feature of your camera (if available).
--> Be on time SAT morning, we don't want to miss sunrise!
