Blue Rag and Grant to Dargo – 19th – 21st May 2023

Join Jose and Club 4×4 on a weekend visiting several iconic mountains in the High Country and the Grant Historic Area.

This trip will have a big day of driving on Saturday on some steep, loose tracks, so it takes a well-prepared vehicle, but the tracks are well-known and appropriate for drivers wishing to gain some more experience in difficult-rated tracks.

Join Jose on a weekend visiting several iconic mountains in the High Country and the Grant Historic Area. This trip will have a big day of driving on Saturday on some steep, loose tracks, so it takes a well-prepared vehicle, but the tracks are well-known and appropriate for drivers wishing to gain some more experience in difficult-rated tracks.
Departing Friday evening from the Wallan Truck stop, we will spend Friday night in Shippens Flat in the Buckland Valley south of Bright.
On Saturday we will climb Mt Murray and Mt Blue Rag and come down to Talbotville. If the tracks are dry we will trek down the steep Basalt Knob Track and if not we will follow a gentler route. We will spend the night at Talbotville.
Sunday will be a mix of driving and walking to visit the Grant Historic Area and the Hibernia State Forest towards Dargo, where we will finish the trip at around 1:00 pm.

Any specific requirements?

Recovery gear and rated recovery points as per the club rules for Difficult/Very Difficult trips. UHF radio, preferably fixed (not walkie-talkie). All terrain or mud tyres a must due to the steep and loose terrain as is a snorkel because of river crossings.

There will be facilities at both campsites. Please bring enough food, water, camping equipment, warm clothing and fuel for 2 full days of winter driving through the High Country.
