Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary): | We will meet in the Caltex petrol station in Longwarry on Thursday, September 26th and drive to the Tambo Crossing campsite on the Great Alpine Road. It will be a 3-hour drive so we should depart at 7:00 pm at the latest. If you prefer you can drive to the campsite on your own (please notify trip leader). There are no toilets at Tambo Crossing, though there is a tiny campsite with toilets 4km south along the Great Alpine Rd, at the crossing with Collins Rd. On Friday we will drive north along Mt Elizabeth, Mt Wong Tk and Cooks Break towards Mt Nugong in Nunniong SF. We will visit the “Washington Winch” and the “Moscow Hut” and will overnight in Bentley’s Plain, which has toilets. On Saturday we will explore the region west of the Timbarra river and camp on one of the numerous campsites along the river. We will aim for a site with toilets but we may have to end up camping in one without. On Sunday we will explore more tracks as we make our way south towards the Nowa Nowa Rd, aiming to end the trip East of Bruthen around 12-1 pm. From there it should be a 4-hour drive to Melbourne. |
