Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary): | Join me on a trip around some new and familiar tracks around Licola. Starting at our usual meet spot at Longwarry, we will venture into hills, camping Friday night at Barkly River Campground, just north of Licola. Saturday morning will take on tracks such as 1 in 10 track, Violet Hill, Cob Spur Track and Green Hills Track, finishing at the Macalister Gorge Scenic Reserve mid afternoon. We will then scope out the river crossing at the Gorge and take one of two options on Sunday: 1. If the crossing is passable, heading east on Burgoyne Gap Track to Licola Road, then continuing east up to Mt Margaret track and coming back west down Hickey Creek Track; or 2. If the crossing is impassable, heading west on Burgoyne's Track to Black Range then heading back east down Cheynes Bridge track, both finishing on Licola Road. The trip will then end either at Moe, or a small town on the way, stopping for a counter meal lunch on the way for those interested. |

Any specific requirements? | Recovery gear and rated recovery points as per the club rules. All terrain or mud tyres a must due to the season and also the steep and loose terrain, as is a snorkel because of river crossings. Driver experience is crucial as some of these tracks require critical wheel placement. There will be facilities at Friday night campsite, but Saturday night is bush camping. Please bring enough food, water, camping equipment and fuel for 2 full days of driving in the High Country. We are going into the High Country in winter, so please also check the weather and dress appropriately. |
