Madigan Line - July 2018

Join Chris, Geoff and Club 4×4 for a trip following the first European crossing of the Simpson Desert by Cecil Madigan in 1939 who used camels to make this epic journey. Madigan’s Line is now a series of GPS way points linked by just two wheel tracks between each way point. These way points mark his numerous camp sites. Each year just a handful of four wheel drivers tackle the Madigan Line, now you can join them on this epic journey.

Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary):	This trip will explore the far remote sections of the North Simpson Desert crossing the Madigan Line. The trip will start in Alice Springs with a 10-11 day trek via Mac Clarke Reserve, before crossing the Colson Line and beginning the grueling trek along the Madigan Line. After leaving Madigan camp 15, the trip will head south on the Hay River Track and then join up onto the French Line at Poeppel Corner. We will continue along the French Line and have some fun on Big Red, where we will camp for our final night in the desert, before ending the trip in Birdsville. The trip distance is 1000km from Alice Springs to Birdsville. Due to the extensive planning required for this trip bookings/registration of interest will close in Late January or early Feb 2018. Any specific requirements?	All vehicles will need to be properly prepared as this trip is extremely isolated. 1000km between fuel stops. Fuel Usage for the Madigan Line crossing (approx): V6 Petrol= 280 lts, V8 Petrol= 300 lts, Diesel = 220 lts Spare parts will need to be carried between the vehicles and enough food and water for approx 2 weeks. There is no Fuel or water between Alice Springs and Birdsville. Spares required to be carried will include 2 spare tyres, shocks, springs plus other equipment and spare parts. More information will be provided once bookings have been finalised. A number of Permits will need to be organised including a SA Desert Parks Pass as well as a Permit for the Madigan Line. Sand flags are mandatory in the Simpson dessert
