Planning an trip around Australia or just across the border?

Australian quarantine regulations limit the amounts and types of fresh produce you can travel with. Penalties may apply for not following the rules, so it’s best the know what they are before you go.

The Australian Domestic Quarantine website has all the details you will need. Additionally there is a guide (PDF) is available at the Plant Health Australia website.

Tracks to Avoid

This is a list of tracks that the Club has been down and that may be best avoided for future trips.

N15 Champion Spur Track:

Date: Nov 2011/Aug 2014

This is actually a great track with an interesting crossing of ‘Black River’ half way along it. However it is currently overgrown and you can expect to get lots of pinstriping.

No. 39 Track/Upper Middle Creek Track (Tarra-Bulga NP):

Date: Oct 2014

This is a really nice track with lots of tree ferns and lush green forest. It is very flat and also very wet. In addition to this it has not been driven in a long time. The only open entrance is from the east-south east end near Middle Creek Track, there is a land slip about 300 meters from the North West end of the track. The other thing is the leeches, the place is infested with them. Everytime you got back into the car you had to clean half a dozen off your boots. Enjoy it for what it is…

4WD Victoria MVO Track Access

4WD Victoria MVO Track Access

These tracks are designated ‘Management Vehicles Only’ and are not open to the general public. There are a total of 1433 MVO tracks on the list provided by Parks Victoria so access is not provided to all of them. However 4WD Victoria and affiliated clubs have been granted permission to access 381 MVO Tracks by Parks Victoria.

What do I need to do to access MVO tracks as part of a 4WD Club trip?

  1. Plan the trip and find out which MVO tracks you would like traverse (see attached MVO Track List).
  2. Complete the Track Access Application and Emergency Plan Check List attached to this document. Please note that it is important that you fill in the trip participant list. This list can be updated closer to the trip, but needs to be filled in to ensure the application can be processed.
  3. Submit the Track Access Application and Emergency Plan Check List to the Projects & Events Manager, Four Wheel Drive Victoria, PO Box 1015G, North Balwyn, VIC, 3104.

The final say on whether you will be granted access to the tracks on your application form lies with the Head Ranger at the park where you are requesting access. Parks Victoria do not give a time frame for the application form to be processed so give them plenty of time. Planning early will give you the best chance of getting your permit approved in time.

The following link has all the details from 4WD Victoria. It contains the MVO Track list as well as the application form and other information relating to applying for a Permit.
