Madigan Line Crossing – 28th May – 4th June 2024

Join Clint, Mark and Club 4×4 for a crossing of the Simpson Desert along the famous Madigan Line. This is without doubt an amazing trip through a very remote part of Australia visiting some iconic sites travelling along a historic track.

This trip will explore the far remote sections of the North Simpson Desert crossing the Madigan Line.

The trip will start in Mt Dare with a 5-8 day trek via the Pastoral Rd up to Old Andado Homestead (Old Andado Homestead) for a look around at a piece of history in the desert, and onto the beginning the gruelling trek along the Madigan Line. After leaving Madigan camp 15, we will try and continue on the Madigan all the way to the QAA line and on to have some fun at big red. We will camp here for the final night, but if there are closures the trip will head south on the Hay River Track and then join up onto the French Line at Poeppel Corner. We will back track to the QAA Line and have some fun on Big Red, where we will camp for our final night in the desert, before ending the trip in Birdsville. The trip distance is approximately 850km from Mt Dare to Birdsville.

Brief directions to meeting point:

Meeting at the Mt Dare hotel for an evening meal together before we start the trip in the morning. Members will need to organise their own accommodation for the first night.

Any specific requirements?

All vehicles will need to be properly prepared as this trip is extremely isolated. 850km between fuel stops.

Spare parts will need to be carried between the vehicles and enough food and water for approx. 10 days. There is no Fuel or water between Mt Dare and Birdsville.

Spares will be required to be carried. More information will be provided once bookings have been finalised.

A number of Permits will need to be organised including a SA Desert Parks Pass as well as a Permit for the Madigan Line.

Sand flags are mandatory in the Simpson dessert
