Mount Cole Explorer – March 2019

Join Club 4×4 and Ralf on an exploration of Mount Cole State Forest.

This trip is a replacement trip for the Burgoynes and Beyond – March 2019 trip due to fire activity in the area, members booked on that trip will be given preference to book on this trip.

Location and/or Description of Trip (Itinerary):

We will meet on Saturday at 9.30 am in Beaufort, around the Bakery on the main road (Neil St/Western Highway) and enter Mt Cole SF from the SE, close to Raglan. From there we'll visit Mt Cole and work our way up north, exploring tracks along the way, before we stay over night at the Chinamans campsite.
On Sunday we will do some more tracks on the Northern half of the park, then heading to Elmhurst, where the trip will end around 1pm.
Those wanting to have lunch at the Avoca Hotel can join me for one of their famous burgers and very decent beer, before heading home to Melbourne.

Brief directions to meeting point:

Take the M8/A8 (Western Highway) direction Ballan-Ballarat-Ararat. Beaufort is halfway between Ballarat and Ararat, ~170 km from the Northern suburbs. Allow for a 2-hour drive.

All-terrain or mud tyres.
Food, drinking water and sleeping gear for a weekend trip.
The Chinamans campsite has water tanks, toilets and a sheltered area, but come prepared for rain and coldish weather.
